The American Idol Wild Card round was tonight. Half the eight candidates in the Wild Card round had a chance to advance. The American Idol Wild Card results are in, and four winners are: Megan Corkrey, Anoop Desai, Matt Giraud, and Jasmine Murray. It's going to be a Top 13, instead of a Top 12.
The four will join those who were already selected due to viewer votes: Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey, Jorge Nunez, Kris Allen, Lil Rounds, Michael Sarver and Scott MacIntyre.
Megan Corkrey, won over the judges with a version of KT Tunstall's "Black Horse & Cherry Tree." Paula said half heartedly "I enjoyed watching you", Kara gave her a huge plug to go through, while Simon and Randy liked her despite her vocal weaknesses.
Jasmine Murray, succeeded by singing Christina Aguilera's "Reflection." The judges said she was better than last time, Paula said she was "determined," and Simon finally saying she was in the running.
With just one slot left, Matt Giraud and Anoop Desai, were both called up; and after Matt was told he was advancing, Anoop was called back and informed they were increasing the finalists' field to 13, making room for him.
Matt Giraud, sang the Smokey Robinson song (attributed on the show to the Jackson 5) "Who's Loving You". All the judges thought he was a thousand times better though Simon did not like his Justin Timberlake look.
Anoop Desai repeated an earlier performance, of Bobby Brown's "My Perogative,". The audience loved him and Simon said he's not much of a singer but people like him, The Judges weigh personality as well as singing ability and said his winning charm would get him through. At its conclusion he recognized his University of North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill, which was marking the one year anniversary of the shooting death of student body president Eve Carson.
Fox announced next week on March 11th Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson will perform at the live results show. West will sing "Heartless" and Clarkson will perform "My Life Would Suck Without Out".
The American Idol winner receives a million dollar record deal with a major label, and is managed by American Idol-related management. Other finalists have also been signed by the show's management company and received record deals with its major label partner.
